Why Does Vitamin C & SPF Work So Well Together?

While having a coffee, going for a run & shaving are all optional in the morning, applying SPF is not & should be a regular non-negotiable in your morning routine. Daily Ritual has been carefully designed to save you time & provide your skin with a double defence against harmful UV rays & environmental factors, both of which prematurely age the skin.

Combining SPF with vitamin C is the holy grail in terms of preserving a youthful appearance & minimising the signs of ageing. Unlike other active ingredients, vitamin C does not make the skin more susceptible to sunburn but actually works in harmony with SPF to better protect the skin. Speaking in technical terms, vitamin C is photo-incinerated, or burned off, when applied to sun-exposed skin without the protection from SPF, rendering it ineffective. However, when the two are combined, vitamin C can play it’s role in blocking aggressors while SPF takes on the big task of combating UVA & UVB rays, keeping the skin youthful, bright & healthy-looking.

Vitamin C takes centre stage when it comes to antioxidants, & for good reason. This hero ingredient works to neutralise environmental & free radical damage which results in unwanted pigmentation, uneven skin tone, moisture loss, dark spots & a dull complexion – just to name a few. Unfortunately, free radicals are a part of daily life & can be found in many forms, including smoking, pollution & of course powerful UV rays. Given this, it makes sense that Daily Ritual was curated to pair SPF with vitamin C from the Australian Kakadu plum, the richest source of vitamin C globally.

It’s important to note that vitamin C on it’s own is not a sunscreen itself, but rather works hand in hand to compliment SPF. When choosing the right sun protection, opt for a pairing of vitamin C with SPF as this is the best answer to preventing the skin from ageing prematurely & will best protect your skin for brighter days ahead.
